Nitais a new rare gem from Priorat, a region typically known for its concentrated barrel-aged reds, because it is one of the only “vinojovens,”or young wines, made from within this famous appellation. The creation of young winemaker Maritxell Palleja, Nitaretains all the characteristic mineralityof a true Prioratwine, while at the same time preserving the dense fruit flavors of old-vine Garnachaand Cariñena. Black cherry in color with garnet rims, this wine has aromas of wild berry jam and subtle spices. On the palate the wine is well structured and silky, with mature tannins that give the wine a long and succulent finish. Designed to be consumed upon release, this wine can also age for up to 5 years in bottle.
Wine Advocate
Nita was created by young winemaker Maritxell Palleja. It is a rare unoaked Priorat designed to highlight the palette of Priorat minerality and old-vine fruit flavors that can be consumed early on. With the 2005 Nita, that goal has been achieved in spades. Composed of 45% Garnacha, 35% Carinena, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Syrah, the wine has a dark ruby hue, aromas of pencil lead, wild raspberry, black cherry, and spice box. This leads to a full-bodied wine with layers of sweet fruit, a silky palate feel, and soft tannins that should carry the wine for another 4-6 years. Nicely balanced with a long, pure finish, this is a superb value in Priorat.
