Nocino della Cristina is a cult Amaro taking NYC by storm one palate at a time. The alchemy begins when freshly picked organic green walnuts from Napa Valley's Oak Knoll district (harvested in one day during the feast of St. John the Baptist) are left steeping in un-aged California brandy. Over the next several months, daily sensory evaluations are made and a secret concoction (of whole natural spices and Hawaiian sugar cane) is added until the final product is ready for bottle. This flavor of this Nocino is halfway between the intensely bitter amaro Fernet Branca (an Italian digestive) and the sweet spiciness of pecan pie. Enjoy with your favorite Bourbon or Rye for a monstrous Manhattan, drizzled over pumpkin, or neat as a delicious digestivo. Salut e Pace! |

The bouquet features intriguing scents of coffee bean, black walnut, chicory and a hint of quinine. The palate entry is molasses-like and walnutty; the midpalate features tastes of black walnut and buttery richness on top of the roasted coffee bean. Ends stately, concentrated, luxurious, and nuttily delicious. - P.P. (5/1/2007) - 90-95: Superb/Highly Recommended
