Fans of Domaine Brusset's delicious Côtes du Rhône looking to try something similar but with more richness and complexity will thoroughly enjoy this Gigondas from the outstanding 2009 vintage. Gigondas, an up-and-coming Rhône Valley appellation whose best wines are on par with many from Châteauneuf-du-Pape bottlings, offers wine that can be enjoyed at a fraction of the price of those bottlings. Primarily Grenache, this wine includes small amounts of Syrah, Mourvédre, and Cinsault, all of which are harvested from hillside vineyards at the base of the imposing Dentelles de Montmirail mountains. With plenty of dried herb, crushed black fruit, and spice aromas, this purple-hued wine features ripe black plum, berry, and spice flavors that complement coq au vin, braised lamb shanks, or grilled pork spareribs.
