History may prove the Naia Verdejo to be the wine that dethroned Albariño as Spain's most prolific white wine in the US. After first enjoying carafes of Naia alongside heaping platters of shellfish, Jamòn, and caperberry salads on the Mediterranean coast years ago, we've since spotted the wine stateside at four-star sushi temples such as Masa in the Time Warner Center, and bivalve luncheonettes including San Francisco's Swan Oyster Depot. The fun starts with Naia's acrobatic aromas of grapefruit, gooseberry, and kiwi, continuing with more of the same in each luscious sip. Naia holds its own as a tasty aperitif and seems to pair well with anything and everything that comes from the sea. Try it with your favorite sushi, banana leaf-steamed fish, bouillabaisse, or pan-seared scallops with capers and anchovy butter.
