The 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin Champonnet displays much more refinement and restraint than the Evocelles with a soft, enveloping, incipiently creamy palate loaded with ripe, gently-cooked black cherry and hints of caramel, vanilla and coconut from the barrel. The finish lingers with ingratiating sweetness if not much complexity. (89-91) Score: 91. —David Schildknecht,
