Consummate gentleman and master Aussie winemaker Ben Riggs seemed to catch lightening in a bottle when his bargain-priced Woop Woop Shiraz debuted at USQ Wines back in the summer of 2003. After landing top honors in the New York Times, the Woop Woop became near impossible to keep on our shelves. After a visit here at USQ, Mr. Riggs left us with his latest—a liter-sized bottle of something he called "Big Woop Red." A multi-variety blend crafted with fruit from three different vineyard areas (Riverina, the McClaren Vale, and the Limestone Coast), the Big Woop Red boasts the same concentrated red berry and pepper aromas as its pricier sibling, while juicy blackberry and subtle chocolate flavors seem fresher through to the finish. This user-friendly red is built for festive gatherings and outdoor cookouts; an appropriate bottle to serve alongside grilled teriyaki salmon or Grûyère-coated burgers. |
