The charming Nony family manages this beautiful estate in Bordeaux's Haut-Medoc, just a stone's throw from the luxe-priced wines of Saint-Julien. With neighbors like Chateau Lagrange and Gruaud-Larose, it's always a wonder this wine is priced as affordably as it is, especially given its quality and longevity. Bordeaux purists take note: this is not a souped-up, inky teeth-staining Napa Valley blockbuster posing as claret. This is a refined, classic Medoc. Comprised of Cabernet and Merlot, this medium-bodied red has appealing aromas of sweet earth and stone, dark fruits, and herbs, with supple flavors of olive and cassis that end with a pleasing, mildly chewy finish. What tannins do exist on the finish marry well with simply grilled steaks dusted with truffle salt.

Wine Advocate   This property seems to get relatively good representation in the United States. The 2009 is made from a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot. Attractive loamy soil notes intermixed with black currants and mulberries jump from the glass of this fruity, solidly constructed, mid-weight wine. Drink it over the next 5-7 years. (A member of the Association of Crus Bourgeois du Medoc.)
