"Wow!" was the first thing we said after getting into a proper glass of this mysteriously under-priced Oregon Pinot Noir. After poking around a bit we learned that Vèronique Drouhin-Boss of Burgundy's venerable Drouhin family is responsible for keeping quality on point, something she's been doing without fail at the Willamette Valley's Domaine Drouhin since the late 1980s. We're not sure how long it will remain at this price so we've filled our cellar with enough cases to last through winter. Be sure to open the bottle and pour a glass a few minutes before you plan on enjoying this gem. There's a lot going on here. Look for subtle aromas of lavender, clove, summer fruits, and strawberry preserves, as well as flavors of pomegranate and spice that finish with warming tannins. Though we've enjoyed this immensely by itself, a proper roast chicken or rich braised short ribs would make outstanding companions. |
