The Hugel family can trace its winemaking roots in Alsace to the 15th century. Today the family crafts collectible late-harvest wines from its grand cru vineyards around the medieval town of Riquewihr as well as white wine steals, such as this Pinot Blanc, from other vineyards in the area. Good Alsatian Pinot Blanc offers a crisper glass of wine than the unctuous Gewurztraminers most imbibers associate with Alsace. Hugel's Pinot Blanc is spot-on with clean pear and honeysuckle aromas and flavors that match well with fresh cheese platters, green salads and simple fish dishes.
