Mount Eden's storied vineyard sits 2700 feet above Silicon Valley in the Santa Cruz Mountains, far from the hustle and bustle of Napa Valley. Originally planted in the mid-20th century the vineyard is considered by many to be one of California's most important sites. Though capable of aging gracefully for decades, wines like this 2007 (an outstanding vintage in the Santa Cruz Mountains) offer plenty of luscious fruit and spice flavors that are easy to enjoy minutes after uncorking. A candidate for best Pinot Noir in the house, the '07 Mount Eden has all the enticing cocoa, allspice, and red berry fruit you'd expect to find in a top-flight Burgundy, with plenty of sappy cherry flavors to remind you that you're still in California. Enjoy this great American wine with everything from onion and mushroom frittatas to grilled duck breasts or roasted lamb.
