South Australia's Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale once impressed the world with wines of power. Explosive fruit character cast in oak and spice was just the formula to capture the attention of "New World" wine gurus already stocking cellars with Napa Cabs and Super Tuscans. Although it was a vastly expanding wine market with bargain wines of South Australia ruling the seas, it wouldn't last. Why? Because the wine market is a stream of trends and those trends changed very quickly. Rich Shiraz and Grenache blends gave way to Gamay and Cabernet Franc. Oaky Chardonnay was traded in for mineral-driven Txakoli and Muscadet. Regardless of what individual producers were doing, the stereotype was there and sales suffered.
Enter Mr. Gordon Little and his company Little Peacock Imports. His much heralded tasting at The Spotted Pig dispelled many misconceptions about these stereotypes while introducing (or reacquainting people with) a region that has gotten very little press- Western Australia. Margaret River, Adelaide Hills, Clare Valley, and the like are producing wines of character and grace while thoughtful producers from points south are rethinking viticulture and elevage to craft wines of distinction.
Join USQ and Gordon Little as we present some of Australia's most exciting cuvées! Attendees may look forward to selections from Tim Smith Wines, Stella Bella, Route du Van, Mac Forbes, Jim Barry Wines, Luke Lambert, and more!
Admission to this tasting is FREE, and reservations are not required!
