Light red. Musky red berry and cherry aromas are complicated by smoky loam and pungent herbs. Taut raspberry and bitter cherry flavors pick up sweet cured tobacco and cocoa powder character with air, along with dusty tannins. Finishes with mounting grip and good sappy cling. The least forthcoming of this set of pinot releases right now, but possesses good concentration and no excess weight.
Classic ruby. A relatively high-toned red berry and cranberry fruit nose leads to round, rich, supple and quite forward flavors that are delicious and nicely sappy though there is a slight edge to the finish that lacks a bit of depth and also reflects a mild touch of warmth. I like the transparency here and the style certainly leans toward the elegant side of the spectrum though the finish is at present awkward. To be sure, this is indisputably pretty but doesn't have as much depth, at least not yet, as I'm used to seeing from this wine.
