An absolutely thrilling Nebbiolo-based wine from the unheralded Gattinara DOCG. Fans of Barolo and Barbaresco owe it to themselves to explore the various single-vineyard Nebbiolos from Antoniolo, and this particular vintage of Osso San Grato is a great place to start. Medium- to full-bodied aromas and flavors of dreid flowers, spice, and sweet tobacco beg for hearty braises and succulent chops. Less than one case on hand.
The 2006 Gattinara Osso San Grato is easily one of the finest wines I have ever tasted from Antoniolo. This is a first-class effort from start to finish. Elegant, silky and impeccably polished, the Osso San Grato impresses for its endless layers of fruit, gorgeous inner perfume and impeccable finish. This is a new reference-point wine for Gattinara – it is that fabulous. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2031.
I was totally blown away by the wines I tasted from Antoniolo this year. Quite simply, these are some of the very finest Gattinaras I have ever tasted. The Osso San Grato in particular is a must-have bottle. Antonio Galloni
