Unearth the charm of the Château Meyney vineyard, beautifully seated on a highly drained siliceous gravel terroir; the ultimate terrain for granting grapes their full maturity. The vineyard's blend is a wonderful dance between Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and a touch of Petit Verdot—added at a range of 10% to 20% depending on the vintage—originating from mass selection vines. These enduring vines, planted back in the 1950s, gift the wine with an intense shade of black, peppered with spicy undertones and a spirited style. The diligent teams at the castle ardently protect this priceless, historic genetic legacy of the estate. Truly, the fusion of these three unique grape varieties strikes a sublime equipoise of power and grace.
The 2016 Meyney has a very deep color. The bouquet is a stunner, delivering intense, mineral-rich black fruit pixelated to the nth degree. This is extremely focused and conveys the energy of a tightly coiled spring. The extremely well balanced palate offers fine-grained tannins and superb acidity. Very pure and focused, with a harmonious, vibrant finish that lingers in the mouth. You can feel this lingering 45–60 seconds after the wine has exited. Wonderful. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting.
