Discover the marvelous depth and majesty of the Elena Fucci Aglianico del Vulture Titolo 2018, the embodiment of a fascinating family history interwoven with the unique terroir of Basiliacata. This spectacular offering hails directly from the vibrant terrain at the foot of Mount Vulture, an extinct volcano whose rich, mineral-rich soil offers an unparalleled platform for the vineyard's venerable, 70-year-old Aglianico vines.
Born from the heart and dreams of Elena Fucci, who bravely decided to embrace the family's legacy instead of letting it be sold off, the vineyard thrives under her dedicated stewardship. Elena's unwavering commitment to the land she grew up adoring has led to the full exploration and celebration of the domain's potential, breathing new life into the noble Aglianico vines.
Hand-harvested with utmost care during the last week of October, the harvest from the vineyard is one of the last in Italy, following a timeworn tradition that ensures the grapes reach their optimal maturity. Following the meticulous harvesting process, the Aglianico grapes are gently de-stemmed, crushed in small batches, and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks.
This boutique wine later embarks on a sensory journey, experiencing malolactic fermentation in brand-new French oak barriques, maturing for 12 months while cultivating a complex character. An additional 6-month rest in the bottle ensures the distinct characteristics are refined and harmonized, resulting in a wine that enchants the senses at the first sip.
Let the mesmerizing palimpsest of flavors unfold on your palate. Wisp of smoke greet you first, giving way to sandalwood and herb-fused raspberry jam and green olive flavors. As you savor each sip, relish the long finish, accentuated by the vineyard's volcanic soils and lofty altitude - truly a sublime testament to Basilicata's Aglianico vineyard offerings.
Hailed among the Wine & Spirits Top 100 Wineries of 2022, and lavished with an exceptional rating of 93 points by Wine Enthusiast and 92 points by Vinous by Antonio Galloni for the 2018 vintage, the Elena Fucci Aglianico del Vulture Titolo 2018 underscores an intricately balanced harmony of nature, heritage, and winemaking prowess – a perfect microcosm of love, dedication and unmatched craftsmanship.
Plushness aromas of violet, juniper, cherry and bramble berry burst on the nose. Medium in weight, there's a driven, ample feel to the juicy red-cherry and blackberry flavors, with bits of tar and pressed rose arising on the midpalate. Yet, throughout the whole experience, bouncy berry fruit and zesty crushed mineral tones remain constant. There's structure and poise to this wine that makes it enjoyable to drink now, but it will also hold well through 2028.
There’s no mistaking the masses of pure, mineral-laden, musky Aglianico del Vulture fruit that wafts up from the 2018 Titolo. It’s dark, with violet florals and smoke smoldering in the glass. The silky and pliant textures within wash a polished wave of mineral-tinged black fruits and savory exotic spices across the palate with ease, propelled by zesty acidity. Grippy tannins emerge, yet the mouth waters as a salty flourish lingers, along with hints of licorice and lavender. The 2018 won’t be the longest-lived vintage of Titolo, but this beauty will excel easily through medium-term cellaring.
