Tasting Notes: This expressive and focused presentation of Hirsch has never been more evocative. It showcases vibrant flavors of mandarin, truffle, and coastal bay.
Vineyard: Hirsch Vineyard, first planted in 1980 by Bronx expat David Hirsch, spans around 90 acres. The vineyard sits at elevations reaching up to 1500 feet, with a mix of Goldridge, Hugo, Boomer, and Yorkville variety soils. Its location above the fog line allows for a cool climate expression with maximum sun exposure.
Vintage: The 2019 vintage was a classic one, marked by perfectly timed rainfall, a somewhat more compact growing season, even temperatures, and warm, dry weather at harvest, resulting in perfectly ripe, healthy fruit.
Winemaker: Ehren Jordan, a true vigneron with decades of experience from the Rhône Valley to Paso Robles, Sonoma County to the Willamette Valley. His obsessive hands-on farming practices and minimalist hands-off winemaking allow the site, variety, and vintage to guide each expression.
Wine Details:
The 2019 Pinot Noir Hirsch Vineyard is beautifully layered and also quite mysterious. Constantly changing in the glass, the Hirsch shows all of the pedigree this site is known for. More than anything else, the Hirsch balances intensity with lightness in a way that is totally beguiling. I especially admire the energy here.
