This tasting focuses on the cool, high-altitude plateau of Amyndeon in Macedonia, a region transforming the reputation of Greek viticulture. We are spotlighting two pioneers who have defined this "New Old World" renaissance: Kir-Yianni and Alpha Estate.

First, we explore the playful side of the Xinomavro grape with Kir-Yianni’s Akakies Sparkling Rosé 2024. Founded by the late, iconic Yiannis Boutaris, this winery understands the versatility of the region's signature red grape. This Charmat-method sparkler is vibrant and creamy, offering a touch of residual sugar that perfectly balances the grape's natural high acidity. It is a masterclass in balance from one of the country's most important families.

Next, we turn to the laser-like precision of Alpha Estate. Founded by enologist Angelos Iatridis, this winery utilizes sandy soils and high elevations to craft wines of immense clarity. The 'Ecosystem' Assyrtiko 2023 proves this variety shines beyond the island of Santorini. Winemaker Iatridis uses sur-lie aging to create a white that is crisp yet creamy, bursting with citrus and floral aromatics. Finally, the 'Hedgehog Vineyard' Xinomavro 2022 offers a serious look at the red grape. Aged in French oak, it reveals a structured, sophisticated profile that rivals the great reds of Piedmont and Burgundy.
