| Description of Event: |
We are honored to welcome a true visionary to the Union Square Wines tasting table: Alan Murungi, the founder of Procera Gin. Traveling to us from Nairobi, Kenya, Alan is here to share a spirit that is fundamentally changing the global conversation around gin. Procera was founded with a singular vision—to share the very best of Africa with the world by showcasing the indigenous Juniperus Procera tree. Unlike the vast majority of gins that rely on dried berries shipped across the globe, Procera uses fresh, sun-drenched juniper berries harvested at high altitudes in the Kenyan highlands. This proximity to the source allows Alan and his team to distill with the freshest, ripest fruit, capturing a "terroir" that dried berries simply cannot express. It is the only gin in the world made with this specific species native to the southern hemisphere, offering a profile that is uniquely nutty, earthy, and vibrant. We will be pouring the signature Procera Blue Dot, an elegant expression crafted with 11 African botanicals sourced from the plains of Morocco to the Indian Ocean islands. Expect a nose of zesty citrus layered over a nutty backdrop, leading to a broad, mouth-filling palate that is perfect for a Martini. To fully elevate the experience, we will be serving it with Procera’s bespoke botanical salt garnish—a blend of Zanzibar sea salt and crushed botanicals that makes the savory notes burst to life. Housed in a hand-blown kitengela glass bottle with a coconut wood stopper, this is sustainable luxury at its finest. Don't miss this rare opportunity to meet Alan and taste the fresh heart of African gin. You're cordially invited to our event, and while reservations aren't necessary, feel free to register if you'd like! |
