Father's Favorite Bandol Rosés
The Finest Provençal Rosés, Great for Summer or Cellar The 2019 vintage has turned out a phenomenal stable of succulent rosés from around the world, and we can't remember a better showing from our favorite estates in Bandol. The best Bandol rosés manage somehow to be both opulent and refined, floral and mineral with fruit and acidity in equal measures. The wines are delicious upon release and gain in complexity with time in the cellar - some of the best aged wines we've ever tasted were bottles of Tempier rosé from the previous decade.
With Father's Day on Sunday, we're reminded of how much the Dads of USQ love Bandol rosé. Their versatility at the table is hard to beat, especially during the summer months where everything from grilled meats and veggies to cool salads and burgers are on the menu. The wines are the oppposite of insipid, and all of our featured Bandol rosés come from family estate with decades of winemaking history under their belts.
The Bastide Blanche is a perennial USQ staff favorite, and the best value in Bandol one can find. The 2019 is sumptuous, pairing well with gruyere burgers or herb-dusted grilled prawns.
The Château Pradeaux is perhaps the friendliest of the 2019 Bandol rosés, with ebullient fruit aromas and flavors braced by refreshing acidity and a long, lip-smacking finish. A delight to quaff on its own, or served alongside a plate of spicy Merguez sausage.
Domaine Tempier's 2019 Bandol Rosé should age effortlessly for a minium of 10 years, provided you can resist popping the cork now. As structured a Provençal rosé as you're likely to find, we recommend a quick decant before enjoying in 2020.
