This whiskey first undergoes a minimum of two years of maturation in new, charred American oak barrels, a process that develops a robust foundation of classic caramel and vanilla notes, complementing the spirit's inherent sweetness. The true distinction then unfolds during an extended 20-month finishing period. For this crucial stage, the whiskey is transferred into freshly emptied barrels that previously held Five & 20's own 'Commiseration' Imperial Stout, sourced directly from their on-site brewery. Filling these stout-seasoned casks within 24 hours of the beer's removal ensures the whiskey captures the freshest and most impactful roasted malt character.
