This release masterfully showcases Found North's unique creation philosophy of blending, finishing, and re-blending, resulting in a spirit of incredible depth, layering, and complexity.
The journey begins with a remarkable initial blend of incredibly well-aged components: corn whiskies aged 17, 20, and 24 years are married with a 22-year-old rye whisky. This entire blend is then re-casked for an additional seven months of maturation in a combination of three distinct barrel types: sweet Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, elegant French Oak Cognac casks, and robust New American Oak casks. Following this finishing period, the components are meticulously re-blended to create the final, harmonious whisky.
Bottled at a cask strength of 112.4 proof, Hell Diver is a true "vermilion storm cloud" of flavor. The nose is a complex bouquet of red velvet cake, hazelnut, brandied chocolate cherry, and raspberry-infused honey. The palate delivers waves of toasted caramel, creamy mocha, and strawberry conserva, which crescendo with notes of nutmeg and white tea. The experience culminates in a final flush of red comice pear before a long, silken descent into an everlasting swirl of maple, walnut, and cocoa powder.
