Hampden 'The Maverick' Single Jamaican Rum is an exceptional and exclusive release from one of the world's most revered distilleries, crafted to celebrate a new chapter in the family's history. From the legendary Hampden Estate in Jamaica's Trelawny Parish—a producer with nearly three centuries of distilling history—this bottling is a deeply personal creation by Christelle Harris, a member of the distillery's owning family, in honor of the birth of her son, Maverick, in May 2024.
This unique expression embodies the authentic spirit of Hampden, showcasing a masterful blend of different rum styles (known as 'marks') and vintages. It combines the intensity of the 2018 HGML mark with the lighter character of the 2020 LFCH mark and the iconic profile of the 2021 C<>H mark. Distilled from a mix of molasses and dunder in traditional double retort pot stills and fully aged in the tropical Jamaican climate in ex-Bourbon casks, this rum is a complex tapestry of flavor.
Bottled at a potent 59% ABV to enhance its character, 'The Maverick' is powerful and enticing. The nose bursts with intense cane sugar and roasted pineapple, layered with manuka honey and aromatic herbs like thyme and bay leaf. The palate is precise and vigorous, with returning notes of roasted pineapple deepened by dark chocolate, savory herbs, and robust spices such as star anise and black cardamom. The finish is exceptionally long and velvety, moving from cinnamon and clove to earthy cacao and elegant florals before a final, lingering note of deeply caramelised molasses.
