Introducing Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky, a true testament to tradition and craftsmanship. This signature grain whisky, gracing the shelves since 2012, is predominantly crafted from corn and undergoes a unique aging process in old casks, including re-filled, remade, and re-charred casks originally made from American oak. The result is a symphony of sweet and mellow flavors that define the essence of Coffey distillates.
The heart of this whisky lies in the Coffey still, a groundbreaking invention by Aeneas Coffey in 1830, marking the world's first patented continuous still. Masataka Taketsuru, during his sojourn in Scotland, had the remarkable opportunity to learn the art of distilling grain whisky in a Coffey still firsthand from the skilled craftsmen at James Calder in Bo'ness in 1919. Recognizing the unique qualities of this still, he made the bold decision to install two sets of Coffey stills at Nikka Whisky after its establishment.
The first Coffey still made its voyage from Scotland to Japan in 1963, followed by the second in 1966. These traditional Coffey stills, while not the most efficient in terms of spirit production, are cherished for their ability to capture the authentic flavors of their ingredients. They are the alchemists behind the distinctive creamy texture that defines Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky.
In the world of spirits, Coffey Grain and Coffey Malt have been carefully crafted to celebrate the beauty and artistry of our Coffey stills. This whisky invites you to embark on a journey through time and taste, offering a sip of history and tradition that continues to captivate connoisseurs and enthusiasts alike.
