Uruapan Charanda Single Blended Anejo offers a sophisticated aged expression of Mexico's unique sugarcane spirit, hailing from the historic Pacheco family in Uruapan, Michoacan—the heartland of the Charanda Denomination of Origin. This meticulously crafted spirit showcases a distinctive "single blended" approach, artfully marrying two different sugarcane distillates derived from the estate's high-altitude, volcanic terroir.
The journey of this Anejo begins with a balanced 50/50 blend: one half is a vibrant distillate produced from 100% freshly pressed local sugarcane juice—wild-fermented in open wooden vats and double distilled in traditional wood-fired copper pot stills, including the historic "El Prieto." The other half is a rich distillate from D.O. molasses, fermented with proprietary yeast and twice distilled using a combination of French-style column and copper pot stills. This carefully composed unaged blend is then laid down to mature for approximately 22 months in ex-bourbon barrels within the estate's rick-house.
This patient aging process imparts a beautiful balance and complexity. The spirit, bottled at 46% ABV, opens with inviting aromas of sunshine and warm brown sugar. The palate gracefully unfolds layers of sweet toffee and light tobacco, while the sugarcane's signature bright, tropical fruit flavors and terroir character are enveloped in a warming, confectionary embrace with hints of clove, toasted coconut, and a whisper of smoke. It finishes cleanly with a delightful golden cane juice afterthought, presenting a harmonious dialogue between fresh cane spirit and subtle, dry whiskey-like nuances.
