This renowned Oregon estate is arguably one of the most important Pinot producing wineries in the United States. After the Eyrie vineyard was planted in the mid-1960s, it was only a matter of time before the Willamette Valley gained a reputation as one of the globe's great sources of world class Pinot Noir. Those looking for a powerhouse Pinot should look elsewhere as this is sublimely elegant Pinot Noir crafted with an eye towards the ethereal wines of Burgundy. Intense cherry and spice aromas lead to velvety texture with a long, taut finish. This extremely versatile Pinot works just as well with dishes like pan-roasted trout or suckling pig as it does with a simple salad of duck confit and mixed greens.
The 2019 Pinot Noir Estate is expressive and transparent and offers incredible concentration for its weightless frame. Medium ruby in the glass, tones of flint, tar and burnt orange give way to a kaleidoscope of raspberries, red cherries, rose petals, pipe tobacco and forest floor. Medium-bodied, silky and seamless, it has a generous core of spicy fruit and a very long, layered finish. Streaked with flinty tones, it deserves to unwind in bottle for another 3-5 years, and it will be long-lived in the cellar.
