We like to think of Walt and Joan Flowers as modern pioneers, two wine lovers whose idea to craft world-class Chardonnay and Pinot Noir lead them to the wilds of the Sonoma Coast. Apart from visionaries like David Hirsch (of Hirsch Vineyards), few winemakers had ventured beyond the cozy côtes of Napa Valley to grow grapes on the land that cascades into the Pacific Ocean. Today, this area is referred to as the "True Sonoma Coast," and wines made with fruit from the vineyards that dot the seascape are among the most sought after Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays California has to offer. The Flowers Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is crafted with fruit from several of the Flowers' estate vineyards. Though fermented in barrel, this wine has plenty of bright citrus and pit fruit flavors to shine through the toasty oak aromas. This opulent Chardonnay is best consumed with rich crab cakes, broiled lobster with drawn butter, or creamy pasta dishes.
