Quinta de Ventozelo Touriga Nacional offers a remarkable expression of Portugal's most esteemed red grape variety, sourced entirely from the unique Vinha do Colmeal vineyard on this historic Douro estate. Nestled beside Ventozelo's lush forest, this specific parcel, with its vertical vine rows and southern exposure, provides ideal conditions for Touriga Nacional to fully reveal its distinctive personality and the unique character of the Quinta.
Crafted with meticulous care by winemaker José Manuel Sousa Soares, the handpicked grapes undergo a rigorous double-selection process: first, hand-sorting of bunches, then optical sorting of individual berries. Vinification occurs in traditional shallow stone lagars, employing pre-fermentative maceration under strict temperature control to gently extract color and aroma. The wine then matures for 12 months in seasoned French oak barrels (300 and 500 litres), ensuring harmonious integration and preserving the grape's inherent qualities.
This Touriga Nacional has a deep violet color, releasing an exuberant and expressive bouquet of ripe black plum and tangy sour cherry, often accented by the variety's signature intense floral nuances.
