The Fratelli Alessandria Monvigliero Barolo 2018 is a masterpiece from Verduno's revered "grand cru" vineyard, Monvigliero. Cultivated on vines over 50 years old, this single-vineyard Barolo reflects the unique terroir of the south-facing slopes at 320 meters above sea level.
This distinguished wine showcases an aromatic symphony of pressed violets, rose garden, white stone, crushed peppercorn, and grilled rosemary, as described by Monica Larner of Wine Advocate, who awarded it 95 points. The smooth texture is underpinned by firm tannins, promising a long and rewarding evolution in the bottle for up to 20 years or more.
Meticulously crafted, the Nebbiolo grapes are hand-harvested in October and undergo a 22-30 day fermentation and maceration in stainless steel tanks. The wine then matures for three years in Slavonian and French oak casks, followed by two months in stainless steel tanks, and a minimum of six months aging in the bottle.
Fratelli Alessandria's dedication to preserving Verduno's unique character shines through in this Barolo. It is a wine of depth and complexity, a testament to the family's centuries-old tradition and passion for producing world-class wines.
The 2018 Barolo Monvigliero shows a beautiful signature of pressed violets, rose garden, white stone, crushed peppercorn and grilled rosemary. The wine is smooth and soft in texture, yet it feels stitched up and firm at the back thanks to the support it gets from those balanced tannins. This wine should hold 20 years or more.
