Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco 2020 is the quintessential expression from Piedmont's most celebrated cooperative, a wine that has powerfully defined the appellation's benchmark character and quality for the world since its first vintage in 1958. True to the Produttori's guiding philosophy of "excellence in simplicity," this is 100% Nebbiolo, a harmonious and traditional blend sourced from the cooperative's various esteemed crus throughout the Barbaresco zone.
Founded by the village priest to unite and empower small local growers, Produttori del Barbaresco remains a bastion of traditional winemaking. For this classic Barbaresco, the grapes undergo a 24-day maceration in steel tanks to gently but thoroughly extract color, flavor, and structure. The wine is then aged patiently in large, traditional 50-hectoliter oak casks (botti), a method that allows the noble Nebbiolo grape to develop its complex aromas and flavors without being overshadowed by new wood, preserving the purity of the fruit and terroir.
The 2020 vintage presents a classic Barbaresco garnet hue, leading to an inviting and characteristic nose of warm spices, a hint of black pepper, and distinct black cherry notes. The palate is at once powerful and firm, supported by well-structured tannins, yet it possesses a remarkable elegance that feels almost ethereal on its long finish. This beautifully crafted wine is a versatile partner for rich egg pasta dishes and a variety of roasted or braised red and white meats, embodying the very soul of Barbaresco.
The 2020 Barbaresco is a lovely, harmonious wine that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Forward fruit and soft curves are perhaps a bit uncharacteristic for young Barbaresco but that also make the wine very enjoyable. Juicy red cherry/plum fruit, rose petal, spice, cedar, mint and tobacco all meld together in the glass. Classicists will probably prefer other vintages, but it's hard not to like the 2020 for its charming, eusive personality. At the same time, aeration brings out greater aromatic presence and a good deal of structure, too. Barbaresco Piedmont
